Getting to & around Sirmione with a dog
Sirmione’s old town sits at the tip of the peninsula and is largely closed to cars: visitors park in the car parks before the drawbridge and walk the last stretch — with a dog, easily the nicest way to arrive. The lanes are flat, compact and simple to explore on a lead; on summer weekends they get crowded, so mornings and evenings are the calmest hours for a dog.

Dogs travel on the Navigazione Laghi ferries and catamarans, but not on the fast hydrofoils (on those, only a small dog or cat in a carrier on your lap). Keep your dog on a fixed lead of max 1.5 m and carry a muzzle to fit if the captain asks. Small dogs (under 50 cm at the withers) travel free; larger dogs pay the reduced fare for the route; guide dogs travel free.

From Sirmione, ferries connect the towns along the southern shore — an easy, scenic day trip with your dog. The nearest train station is Desenzano del Garda–Sirmione on the Milan–Venice line; from there, buses and taxis take you to the peninsula.
Beaches & walks for dogs in Sirmione
Sirmione is unusually clear about where dogs can go: they’re allowed on a lead on three designated beaches — Spiaggia delle Muse, Punta Grò and Brema, where dogs may also swim. At the Lido di Lugana, the free municipal grass lido behind the Santa Maria di Lugana church, leashed dogs are welcome on the grass but not in the water. Everywhere else, follow the comune’s signage — where a beach is signed off-limits, it is.
For a proper equipped dog beach — sunbeds, shade, services — Braccobaldo Bau Beach in Peschiera del Garda and Giulietta Dog Beach in Lazise are both a short drive away. And for a longer outing, the lakeside cycle-pedestrian path between Lazise, Bardolino and Garda on the east shore makes a fine half-day with a dog on a lead.
