Pet-Friendly Hotels in Cortina d'Ampezzo
Looking for a genuinely dog-friendly hotel in Cortina d’Ampezzo? The Olympic town in the heart of the Dolomites is an easy place to travel with a dog in summer. The Freccia nel Cielo lifts from town to Col Druscié, Ra Valles and Cima Tofana carry dogs free, the Lagazuoi cable car at Passo Falzarego publishes its own dog rules and welcomes them, and the trails of the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d’Ampezzo are open to leashed dogs. Hotels here are used to four-legged guests, with welcome kits, trail maps and even a dedicated dog package on offer.
The eight hotels below include three 5-star spa resorts, a 4-star superior suite hotel with a four-night dog package and several 4-star hotels in the centre and the outlying frazioni. We checked each one’s published dog policy, fee and room arrangements; where a hotel says nothing about fees or size limits, the card says so. Published fees are modest, EUR 15 to EUR 20 per dog per night, but several hotels only quote on request.

Getting To & Around Cortina d'Ampezzo With A Dog
The nearest airport is Venice Marco Polo and the nearest railway station is Calalzo di Cadore, with a bus for the last stretch. Cortina Express coaches run from Venice airport, Mestre and Treviso straight to Cortina and carry small animals at half fare, rounded up, provided they travel in a carrier or wear a muzzle and stay on the floor beside your seat or on your lap, never on a seat; guide dogs travel free.
By rail, Trenitalia takes small pets free in a carrier up to 70 x 30 x 50 cm and larger dogs on a lead and muzzle with a EUR 5 ticket (EUR 1 on Saturdays), except on the Regional trains marked in the timetable. In summer the lifts do the hard work: dogs ride the Freccia nel Cielo free with a lead, and a muzzle in any cabin shared with other passengers.
Inside the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d’Ampezzo the rule is simple: dogs on a lead everywhere, enforced by wardens. Carry the muzzle on every lift and coach, and ask the Cinque Torri operator on +39 0436 4010 about dogs before relying on that chairlift.
Dogs On Cortina’s Lifts — The Rules
- Freccia nel Cielo (Cortina–Col Druscié–Ra Valles–Cima Tofana): dogs ride free; a lead is mandatory and a muzzle is required in cabins shared with other passengers.
- The same operator’s safety rules call for a lead and muzzle on medium and large dogs, and on small dogs even when carried.
- Lagazuoi cable car (summer season 6 June–18 October 2026): small dogs that can be carried, about 50 x 30 cm, travel free; large dogs need a paid dog ticket; muzzle and lead for all.
- Lagazuoi also requires dogs to be registered and identifiable; foreign visitors carry the pet passport and vaccination record, and dangerous or sick animals are refused.
- Cinque Torri chairlift (6 June–11 October 2026, 9:00–17:00) publishes no dog policy; phone +39 0436 4010 first.
Trails & Walks For Dogs In Cortina d'Ampezzo
Book a dog-friendly hotel in Cortina d’Ampezzo for the summer season and the lifts and park trails open up above town. Leads on throughout the nature park, and keep the muzzle in your pack for every cabin.
Lago di Sorapis (Rifugio Vandelli) — The park itinerary covers 5.2 km with 650 m of ascent, about four hours, to the turquoise glacial lake 100 m from Rifugio Vandelli. It lies inside the nature park, so the dog stays on a lead the whole way.
Tofana and Ra Valles via Freccia nel Cielo — Ride the lifts free with your dog (lead, muzzle in shared cabins) to reach the high trails and terraces above Cortina without the climb.
Lagazuoi summit and WWI tunnels — The cable car from Passo Falzarego carries dogs, small ones free and large ones with a ticket, muzzle and lead, up to the 2,752 m top station for high-altitude walking around the First World War positions.
Cinque Torri — Chairlift access from 6 June to 11 October 2026, 9:00–17:00, to the rock towers and open-air WWI museum trails; dog carriage is not stated online, so check with the operator before you go.
Dog-Friendly Extras In Cortina d'Ampezzo
Freccia nel Cielo lifts — The Tofana lifts describe themselves as being for everyone, families, children, pushchairs and four-legged friends included, and carry dogs free of charge.
Lagazuoi cable car dog page — The operator publishes a dedicated page on carrying dogs in the cable car, so dogs are explicitly welcome under its rules rather than merely tolerated.
