Geneva airport, about 40 km from Annecy and about an hour from Chamonix, admits recognised assistance dogs in the cabin free and advises checking airline rules and carrying the pet passport, microchip details and rabies vaccination record. SNCF trains take small pets in a 45 x 30 x 25 cm carrier and larger dogs leashed and muzzled at your feet; on TGV INOUI and Intercités each animal needs a EUR 10 ticket per train, with a maximum of two animals per traveller and guide dogs free. The Mont-Blanc Express serves Chamonix from Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet.

Locally, dogs must be leashed on trains and buses in the Chamonix valley and on Annecy’s SIBRA buses, where they are also muzzled and limited to one per bus. Keep dogs on marked trails, leash them near livestock and stay out of the nature reserves. In an emergency call 112; the Centre Hospitalier Vétérinaire Saint-Martin at Allonzier-la-Caille is open 24 hours a day.

How TrustPaws verifies a hotel

  • The real pet policy and any fees — exactly what you’ll pay, with no surprises at check-in.
  • Which room types pets can actually stay in.
  • The welcome amenities genuinely provided — beds, bowls, treats, kits.
  • How genuinely the staff and grounds are set up for animals.

If a hotel hasn’t met the standard, it isn’t certified — simple as that.
