Pet-Friendly Hotels In Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Looking for a genuinely dog-friendly hotel in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc? The valley beneath Mont Blanc is one of the best places in the Alps to hike with a dog, provided you know where the lines are. Dogs on a lead ride the Montenvers rack railway, gondola and ice cave at the Mer de Glace, the Flégère cable car and the Tramway du Mont-Blanc to the Nid d’Aigle at 2,372 m; the Aiguille du Midi cable car does not take animals. The nature reserves, including the Lac Blanc walk, are closed to dogs even on a lead, but the tourist office lists 16 dog-friendly hikes.
The eight hotels below include three 5-star hotels with spas, four 4-star spa hotels in and around the centre and a 4-star lifestyle hotel with a dedicated dog service and welcome pack. We checked each hotel’s published dog policy, fee and room rules; three quote their supplement on request, and one runs a written pet charter you agree to at booking. Published fees are reasonable, EUR 15 to EUR 25 per night.

How TrustPaws Verifies A Hotel
A TrustPaws badge means we’ve checked more than a “pets allowed” box. For every certified hotel, we verify:
- The real pet policy and any fees — exactly what you’ll pay.
- Which room types pets can actually stay in.
- The welcome amenities genuinely provided — beds, bowls, treats, kits.
- How genuinely the staff and grounds are set up for animals.
If a hotel hasn’t met the standard, it isn’t certified — simple as that.
Getting To & Around Chamonix-Mont-Blanc With A Dog
Geneva airport is about an hour away by road; it advises checking your airline’s crate rules and carrying the pet passport, microchip details and rabies vaccination record. By rail, the SNCF Mont-Blanc Express runs to Chamonix from Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet, where TGV and Léman Express services connect. Small pets travel in a 45 x 30 x 25 cm carrier and larger dogs leashed and muzzled at your feet; on TGV INOUI and Intercités the animal ticket is EUR 10 per train, maximum two animals per traveller.
In the valley, dogs must be kept on a lead on trains and buses. The lifts are the big plus: dogs are accepted on all Compagnie du Mont-Blanc lifts except the two sections of the Aiguille du Midi cable car and the Index chairlift at Flégère, and the Montenvers train, gondola and ice cave admit leashed dogs.
On the trails, keep the dog on marked paths, leash it near livestock and stay out of the nature reserves, which are closed to dogs even on a lead.
Dogs On Chamonix Lifts And Trains — The Rules
