Pet-Friendly Hotels in the Dolomites
TrustPaws starts with Cortina d’Ampezzo: eight hotels checked for dog policy, fee and rooms, from 5-star spa resorts with welcome kits to a 4-star hotel on Corso Italia charging EUR 15 per dog per night. One practical tip: pack the muzzle even for a small dog. Every lift operator here requires one in some circumstances, and the Cortina Express coaches from Venice airport only carry small animals in a carrier or muzzled, at half fare.

Travelling In The Dolomites With A Dog
Reaching the Dolomites with a dog usually means Venice Marco Polo airport and either a coach or a train. Cortina Express coaches from Venice airport, Mestre and Treviso carry small animals at 50 per cent of the fare, rounded up, in a carrier or wearing a muzzle, on the floor or on your lap, never on a seat; guide dogs travel free. Trenitalia runs to Calalzo di Cadore, the nearest station to Cortina, with small pets free in a carrier and larger dogs leashed and muzzled on a EUR 5 ticket (EUR 1 on Saturdays).
Once in the mountains, the lifts set the rules: lead on everywhere, muzzle on when the operator asks, and identification papers for the Lagazuoi cable car, where foreign visitors carry the pet passport and vaccination record. Its summer season runs from 6 June to 18 October 2026. In an emergency call 112 and ask your hotel for the on-call vet.
How TrustPaws verifies a hotel
A TrustPaws badge means we’ve checked more than a “pets allowed” box. For every certified hotel, we verify:
- The real pet policy and any fees — exactly what you’ll pay, with no surprises at check-in.
- Which room types pets can actually stay in.
- The welcome amenities genuinely provided — beds, bowls, treats, kits.
- How genuinely the staff and grounds are set up for animals.
If a hotel hasn’t met the standard, it isn’t certified — simple as that.

Frequently asked questions
Are dogs allowed on the trails around Cortina d'Ampezzo?
Yes, on a lead. The Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d'Ampezzo, which includes the Lago di Sorapis route, requires dogs to be leashed throughout, and park wardens can issue fines. The lifts to Tofana and Lagazuoi carry dogs, so the high trails are within reach.
Can I take my dog up the cable cars in Cortina?
On the Freccia nel Cielo lifts to Tofana dogs ride free with a lead and a muzzle in shared cabins. The Lagazuoi cable car takes small dogs free and large dogs with a paid ticket, all muzzled, leashed and identifiable. The Cinque Torri chairlift publishes no dog policy, so phone +39 0436 4010.
