Pet-Friendly Hotels in Versilia & The Tuscan Coast
Versilia is the stretch of Tuscan coast between the Apuan Alps and the sea, with Forte dei Marmi as its most exclusive address. For a dog owner the rules are set by Tuscan regional law 59/2009: municipalities may designate dog areas on the beach where dogs can run free, while at ordinary bathing establishments that admit dogs the animal stays on the lead, under the umbrella, and may not enter the water unleashed. Several bagni in Forte dei Marmi, Lido di Camaiore, Marina di Pietrasanta and Viareggio welcome pets, and neighbouring Viareggio lets dogs swim all day on its free beaches until 15 October 2026.
TrustPaws covers Forte dei Marmi first, with eight hotels checked for their dog policy, fee and rooms; three are 5-star, and most of those take small dogs only, with limits of 5 to 10 kg. Fees where published run from nothing to EUR 30 per dog per night. One practical tip: the town’s own summer beach ordinance is set locally each season, so check on the spot before taking a dog onto the sand, and keep Bau Beach at Marina di Carrara, about 10 km north, in reserve.
